The Government of Japan contributes 2.5 million USD to UNODC for its project to enhance of the ability of Maldives in maritime safety and security

On 8 March, Ms. Takeuchi Midori, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives and Mr. Marco Moreira De Sa Assuncao Teixeira, Regional Representative, UNODC Regional Office for South Asia, signed a grant agreement in which the Japanese Government pledged 2.5 million USD for the UNODC project to enhance the ability of Maldives in maritime safety and security.
 
Through the project, UNODC will provide comprehensive assistance to the Maldives Government to effectively prevent, detect, investigate and prosecute cases of drug trafficking, crimes in the fisheries sector, and crimes affecting the marine spaces in the Maldivian archipelago. Moreover, the project will drive efforts to improve the comprehensive response capability of maritime security in Maldives.
